VIDEO INTERVIEWS

These photos show the progression of Leo’s work places and the documentation of his work. The documentary, ALL THINGS BAKELITE, brings the story to life.  Unless otherwise noted, many of these photographs are from the Baekeland family archives presently in the possession of great-grandson, Hugh Karraker.

Laboratory
Between 1907 and 1910 before operations moved to Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the "Bakelizer" was referred to by Leo Baekeland and his employees as "Old Faithful". In 1992, it was designated the first American Chemical Society's National Historic Chemical Landmark accompanied by a plaque and a booklet. These reside in the collections of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
